Experimentation, if you are like most people you have a digital camera. Pixels are free! The rules of composition have been time tested to be pleasing to the eye but that does not mean that it is the only way a photograph will be appealing.

Know the rules and use them, but also know when it is time to step out and break them. I see amazing photography every day that is not lumped in to any one composition. As more and more people step outside there comfort zones and try new and daring things it influences many people to do the same. Photography is not just photography any more, its construction, destruction, interpretation, emulation, and emotion. It's art, and it is what you make it.
